Think of some of the scariest things you've ever done in your life. For some people, switching careers is scary. Others view bungee jumping or engaging in some kind of extreme sport as scary. You'll probably find people who'll tell you that getting married is one of the scariest things they've ever done. Ed, however, considers driving an antique car as one of the scariest things he's done. He compares driving an antique car to standing against a railing on the edge of a cliff: you know you won't fall because the railing will prevent you from falling, but at the same time, you can stop yourself from feeling scared of falling. That's how Ed felt when he got into the antique car that he and his friend rented and drove off. Ed instantly became scared of every driver he passed.
Ed wouldn't have ever thought of renting an antique car and driving off in it. However, he was doing it for a friend who needed an antique car for a movie he was shooting. Well-funded though not well-connected in the world of show business, Ed's friend inherited a large sum of money. With his financial skills, he turned the large sum into a fortune. But Ed's friend became very frivolous; he poured in a lot of his money in movie projects that tanked. His friend, however, thinks that this movie featuring the antique car would be a success.
Ed admired antique cars, but he preferred to admire them from a distance. He wasn't into driving them. His knowledge of classic cars and the antique car selling business is almost nil, but he has a good pair of eyes and can tell an antique car is a beauty when he sees one. The huge Mustang he was driving sure was a real beauty. It was as huge as a boat and had a very luxurious interior. The antique car cost them a lot of money to rent, but even Ed, who has no experience in the business of antique cars, knows the Mustang was worth it.
Ed had a tough time driving the antique car they rented. He was afraid he'd crash it. He made his turns too slowly and drove with extreme caution. In short, Ed drove like an old lady. Ed had to spend an entire afternoon driving the antique car in order to get used to it. In the end, Ed managed to drive the antique car the way his friend needed it to be driven for the scene. After that, Ed drove the antique car back to the rental place. To Ed, driving an antique car is a scary, but good experience.
